Dignitas Zurich association is the target of polemical. In 2001, 39 foreigners with incurable illness went to that association’s flat to be helped to die. In August 2002, BBC channel broadcasted a report on Dignitas activities. This document produced lively reactions : Opposition of pro-lives English movement , and attractivity effect on asking from help to die. Zurich court is now investigating about the association.
Founded in May 1998 by to formers members of Exit association. Dignitas is the only one which offer “suicide help” to foreigners. In 2001, 78 percent of the “suicide helps” where practice on foreigners and this percentage continue to grow since there mediatisation.
After a strict protocol : membership and study of medical file. A doctor evaluates by interviewing the patient’s motivations to be helped to die. After this, he prescribes ( or not ) the letal substance. From this moment, the patient can go to the flat to be helped to die when he will want to.
Indeed, suicid help for not selfish reason is not punished in Switzerland. The patient sign the suicid declaration when he is in the flat, so he is under the Swiss law.
But things are complicated about the  psychics illness’s suicide help that the Zurich’s court examines. Because in case of jugement’s incapacity of the patient, the help provide by Dignitas become euthanasia act . And this is considered as an homicide in Swiss law.
Now, public minister is   trying to put end on it. But it’s need to change swiss law.
